Some will be familiar with this week's song; however, I would hazard a guess that the singer’s name will be unfamiliar! The artist was born Roy Charles Hammond in Georgia, USA, on August 3rd, 1939, and began his music career singing Tenor with the Genies in Long Beach, Long Island.
Our song was one of Roy’s, which he recorded in New York City in 1965 and released under the name Roy Hammond on his own Hammond Label. However, he then leased the song to another label under the name Roy C. Ah ha, I bet you have guessed the song now!

Shotgun Wedding reached Number 6 in the UK Singles Chart in 1966 and Number 8 when re-released in 1972, and I still have my 7” single from back then! And for a one-hit wonder (or so I thought), he released 36 singles and 11 albums, the first of which was entitled Roy Shotgun Wedding C! He also lived to a ripe old age, dying on 16th September 2020, aged 81!
So here Iona’s SotW Shotgun Wedding from 60 years ago….
