Iona’s Song of the Week - No. 19

This week’s song comes from a band that formed back in 1976 and has become known as “Ireland’s first punk band”! They originated in Dublin and went on to release four studio albums between 1977 and 2012, along with three Live LPs. Given that they played the punk genre and that they started in the mid-70s, it should come as no surprise that I first heard them on The John Peel Show!

However, the song that has made this week’s choice is not a punk song, and I was somewhat confused upon first hearing it as I understood the song to be about Loch Earn in the southern Highlands of Scotland. However, it is about Lough Erne, which forms two connected lakes in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland! What’s in a name, eh? The track is from the band’s final album, released in 2012, called Sound City Beat, and the band is called Radiators From Space, although they dropped the ‘from space’ part later in their career.

So, here we are, Iona’s Song of the Week is Behind the Painted Screen…..
