Iona’s Song of the week - No. 15

This week’s song was one I nearly choice a few week ago, however, in the pub tonignt, the Am Fuaran Bar waaay out on the north west coast, it came on the playlist and I knew I had to go with it!

I first encountered the artist when I was in my early teens when he was the singer of The Faces and I began listening to him on his second solo album in 1970. Then six years later Roderick David Stewart released his seventh album A Night on the Town from which this week’s song comes.

The song, a wonderful 6 minutes 28 seconds, was the final track on side one, was a true story of a gay man who was killed in New York City. The song was was in two parts and part one tells the story and the second part is more melancholy and sombre. Georgie was a friend of the Faces and of Rod Stewart’s and it was probably one of the first songs I recall hearing about gay people, although I was aware of Lola by the Kinks released seven years earlier.

So here is The Killing of Georgie (Part I and II) by Rod Stewart, enjoy….

Another cracker Iona, just love the song. It reminds me of my youth, thanks for reminding me of it.
