Song eight of 2025 comes from a London band that began life in 1977 and was formed by the Butler brothers: Vocalist Rochard and Bass Guitarist Tim. Their debut album was released in 1980, and subsequently, they have released eight in total, the last being back in 2020. Our choice is Track No—two from their second album, dated 1981, lasting some three minutes and fifty-nine seconds.
We first encountered the band on coming across their eponymous debut LP The Psychedelic Furs, which was much played on our Pioneer PL-12D turntable in the early 1980s. (Note: the very same record player still resides in our house, and is often called into service!)
Their second album, entitled Talk Talk Talk, was therefore, a natural purchase on its release on the 15th of May 1981, and it too, held residence on the PL-12D for several months, and track two really grabbed our attention. So much so, that forty-four years later it is still cropping up on our Apple Music “Heavy Rotation” playlist!
And so, without any further ‘ado’, here is this week’s Song of the Week: Pretty in Pink by the Psychedelic Furs. The Video 9s also a classic piece of 80s imaging!
P.S. The song was used in a ‘cult classic’ film of the same name in 1986, starring, amongst others, Molly Ringwald and Harry Dean Stanton.
