Iona’s Song of the Week: No. 7 (2025 Part 2)

Those of you who have been paying attention will recall the name Ags Connolly who was chosen for the SotW back on the 21st April this year. Well it was Ags who introduced me to this week’s Singer as Ags has been singing some of this guys songs for a while. In fact, Ags’ latest album, released last year, is a tribute to our artist this week Your Pal Slim: Songs of James Hand.

James Hand was a Texan who passed on the 8th of June 2020, aged just 67 in Waco Texas. His musical style resembled other Texan country singers like George Jones, Lefty Frizzell and Hank Williams, to name but three and in his relatively short career, he released seven long players.

The SotW is called You were with me Then and is the last song on his 2012 outing Mighty Lonesome Man.
