This week's "Song of the Week" comes from one of my favourite American Bands, The Drive-By Truckers. The song is Track No. 8 from their 2008 album 'Brighter than Creation's Dark' and was written by Mike Cooley.
The band was co-founded in 1996 by Patterson Hood (son of bassist David Hood of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section) and his longtime friend and musical partner Mike Cooley in Athens, Georgia.
It is a classic in the storytelling genre, in my opinion, and has some fabulous lines. Perhaps my favourite is:
"Bob takes care of his mama
She's a mess but he feels like he oughta
How big a mess today? Ask Bob he'll say,
"She's a big one and she's gonna be a lotta"
