Having endured a day and night of 30 miles an hour wind gusts while parked above the sea on a clifftop and almost constant heavy rain at Castle Bay Campsite, just south of Portpatrick, we moved along the Galloway Coast to Mossyard Farm Campsite and much-improved weather! Infact as we drove along the farm track into the site the sun was chasing the remaining clouds over the surround hills.
We had been allocated a lovely pitch on the lower field and right on the beach with great views of the bay and the adjacent Carvellan Rocks. Once Iona had been set up, we enjoyed a walk along the beach letting our bare feet sink into the soft wet sand and later sat in the late afternoon sunshine and relaxed, listening to the tide roll in and the various bird songs. Later in the evening we were treated to the fabulous Strawberry Moon as it slowly rose right infront of us over the bay!

The following day was another lovely one once the early morning clouds had scudded over the hills, and after our cup o’ Java and fruit tea we walked over to the No 1 Little Farm Shop to buy some provissions, icluding some grass fed beef burgers from the farm. We then enjoyed a scrumptious home made tea cake each while sitting outside the shop in the sun.
Later in the afternoon, I enjoyed a wonderful swim as the tide made another ruturn, filling the sandy inlet with fresh sea water and changing the local landscape once again. Again we were able to sit outside in the evening and enjoy the remnants of the heat from the setting sun before settling down in Iona and preparing our evening meal, the Piri Piri beef burgers with a fried egg and vine tomatoes!
Later, we caught another glimpse of the Strawberry Moon just before we turned in for the night after another wonderfully relaxing day…..
