A lovely stop-over at Castle Point Campsite, Rockcliffe.

Castle Point Campsite has turned out to be a peaceful and relaxing place, so we have extended our two-night stay for another night. We chose to pitch up in the ‘upper field’, which has two sections: a lower, more sheltered area popular with those in tents and a higher, more exposed area where we are, and we also get the view! The ‘lower field’ is where the static homes and the caravan/motorhomes are located. The on-site facilities are good and provide all that one could ask for.
During our stay, we walked along the Coastal Path into Rockcliffe, where we admired the view while sitting on a bench enjoying an ice cream bought from the Mr Whippy van! We also took the local bus from Rockcliffe to Sandyhills and back to Dalbeatie, the nearest town, where we did some shopping and had a pleasant lunch in the Birchtree Hotel before catching the ‘happy bus’ (full of school kids going home!) and alighting in Kippford, the next village along from our campsite.

After a pleasant drink at a hotel terrace in the evening sunshine, we returned to Rockcliffe and our campsite, where we settled in for the evening.
As today turned into another lovely day weather-wise, we walked along the coastal path to the site of the ancient fort at Castle Point, soaked up the views while listening to the birds, and then wandered back to Iona for our last night at this tranquil site….
Sounds like a lovely spot, enjoy!
